The San Jose Jazz Society presents the San Jose Jazz Festival, the largest summer jazz festival in the world offering free performances at public parks, churches, hotels, clubs, and San Jose performance centers. With more than 100,000 attendees, the festival provides an opportunity for local and touring jazz musicians to reach new audiences, and for the community around San Jose to have access to, and participate in, the arts. The Jazz Society also runs a number of educational programs, including an all-star band, a summer camp, and in-school programs that reach 4,000 children. While the organization has been hard-hit by the scaling back of corporate sponsorships during the recession, the size and diversity of its audiences have grown, and with ongoing Hewlett Foundation support, the Jazz Society's new leadership will continue to deliver low-cost or free access to world class jazz in the South Bay.
