Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors

For A Donor Collaborative To Increase Foundation Openness

Overview
With this grant, the Philanthropy Grantmaking Program officially begins a new strategy focused on increasing openness in the sector. Openness is a pre-requisite to effectiveness because it enables philanthropy to attract good ideas from multiple sources, facilitate faster testing and learning on the path to impact, improve grantee relationships with funders and among one another, strengthen collaboration and reduce duplication of effort, and build communities of shared learning and action. This is a strategy best pursued collaboratively, and thus to start we will partner with five other funders and create a $5.75 million pooled grant fund at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) from which we will recommend grants together.

Grants to this Grantee
for the Climate Emergency Collaboration Group
This supplemental grant supports the Climate Emergency Collaboration Group, a collaborative platform to bring together donors and leaders from the field to coordinate strategies, prioritize gaps, and deploy funds rapidly, based on the greatest need, in the lead-up to COP26. (Substrategy: Multilateral)
for the Collaborative for Gender + Reproductive Equity judicial work to advance reproductive equity
This grant will support a project to work through state courts to better support gender, reproductive, and racial equity and advance a more inclusive democracy. The project will provide grants to state-based organizations to conduct nonpartisan state-level pipeline, education, and mobilization work. (Strategy: U.S. Reproductive Equity)
for Africa No Filter with a focus on sexual reproductive health rights and gender equality
Africa No Filter (ANF) aims to shift harmful narratives within and about Africa. Through this donor collaborative, ANF envisions a world where the prevailing narratives about Africa are reflective of a dynamic and evolving continent. This grant to Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors will enable ANF to strengthen its existing focal areas and launch a new campaign to shift harmful narratives about gender and sexual and reproductive health and rights through its Storify Africa program. (Strategy: Global Reproductive Equity)
