Overview
The Rockefeller Family Fund’s Just Transition Fund works to create inclusive economic opportunities for communities and workers hit hardest by the transition away from coal. Even prior to the pandemic, coal communities across the country were experiencing significant economic distress, as closures threaten economic stability by eroding the tax base and crippling local governments. COVID-19 has exacerbated all these stressors. One priority this year is to ensure national strategies, including economic recovery, are designed to directly alleviate economic distress in transitioning coal communities, act as a blueprint for transitioning oil and gas communities, and build support for durable climate policy in hard-hit areas. Grants to this Grantee
for the Budget Accountability Project
This grant would focus on educating key communities about the role that fossil subsidies play in the tax and fiscal arena. Rockefeller Family Fund plans to take the story developed by Taxpayers for Common Sense, which opposes fossil subsidies, and relay it to targeted audiences across the U.S.
