OpenStax is establishing the Learning in Education Research Network at Rice University, a first-of-its-kind scientific and educational endeavor to study and harness the complex factors that propel human learning. With this new partnership, the network expects to be able to use OER to radically advance the learning sciences and to foster the development and validation of truly personalized educational approaches that will help all learners reach their full intellectual potential. This approach will deepen connections between research and practice, specifically studies that can support and demonstrate the effective use of OER.

OpenStax at Rice University prepares students for a rapidly changing world by creating free, high-quality OER integrated with learning technologies to personalize education for all students. for an international research study to measure students’ social and emotional skills
The Houston Education Research Consortium is a partnership between Rice University and Houston-area school districts that produces research to inform decision making. The group will represent the United States in an international survey coordinated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development to measure students’ skills at ages 10 and 15. The Study on Social and Emotional Skills will demonstrate the feasibility of producing valid, reliable, and comparable information on such skills across countries and settings; additionally, it will provide analyses that can improve education and support services.
