Grants to this Grantee
for the Conservation Litigation Project
Resources Legacy Fund’s Conservation Litigation Project works with a network of expert academics and partner organizations to advance legal scholarship and analysis in support of conservation of public lands and water, and related wildlife policies. The project organizes and facilitates the filing by academics of comments in administrative proceedings and amicus briefs in critical litigation. The project raises the profile of legal issues related to public lands for both legal and general audiences. (Substrategy: Defend Public Lands)
for the California Parks Forward Initiative
The California state parks system is the largest and most diverse in the country. Yet it has failed to keep up with the state’s changing needs and does not have the financial resources to care for and operate the system in the future. This grant would support the creation of a collaborative effort that would combine expertise, funding, and public involvement to develop and implement a new vision and long-term plan for the state parks to meet the future needs of Californians. The Parks Forward Initiative, to be coordinated by Resources Legacy Fund, has won the support of the governor’s office as well as the California Parks Commission. The Packard, Moore, Bechtel, and Irvine foundations, among others, have joined to support this effort.
for the Royal Gorge project
A 3,000-acre property that straddles the Sierra crest at Donner Summit close to California’s Lake Tahoe, the Royal Gorge contains old growth forests, mountain meadows, and several streams. This grant would support Resources Legacy Fund’s efforts to purchase the property.
