Overview
Playwrights Foundation (PF) serves local playwrights at all levels of their careers by producing an annual festival, providing artist residencies and writing workshops, coordinating staged readings, and brokering producing opportunities with theater companies in the Bay Area and around the country. Each year, it serves approximately 65 playwrights and 3,000 members of the public. A number of playwrights who have benefited from its services are achieving remarkable success on local and national stages. An Organizational Effectiveness grant would enable the organization, now in its 36th year, to undertake a professionally-led strategic planning process.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Playwrights Foundation supports contemporary playwrights by helping them to develop and present new plays. Its programs include artist residencies, public readings, a biennial Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and coproduction partnerships. Its programs serve early- and mid-career playwrights, bridge the gap between play development and production, and help to create a more inclusive theatrical landscape. Across the history of the organization, the foundation has served well over 500 playwrights. Support of Playwrights Foundation aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy.
