Grants to this Grantee
for a program to support citizen engagement in extractive industries and budget processes in Senegal
Oxfam America works closely with local civil society organizations to promote transparency of government revenues and spending and to increase public participation in decisions about how public resources are allocated and spent. In the last two years, Oxfam provided detailed information on the legal and fiduciary obligations of extractive companies to citizens in three regions of Senegal and facilitated citizen monitoring of company activities in those regions. This grant will enable Oxfam to consolidate the work in the three regions, expand to two more regions, and build the capacity of citizens in the target communities to participate in decisions about the allocation and use of extractive revenues.
for the development and implementation of an advocacy strategy on unpaid care and domestic work
Oxfam is a global organization working to create solutions to the social injustice of poverty and inequality. This grant to Oxfam America will support Oxfam’s implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Care (WE-Care) program globally, regionally — and in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. The WE-Care program is an initiative meant to transform how unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW) is valued, shared, and invested in. Oxfam will accompany civil society-led advocacy and facilitate participation in influencing spaces; raise awareness of UCDW with media and government officials; develop formative research to inform campaigns; advocate for greater investments in infrastructure and public services; and engage the private sector to change harmful gender stereotypes and norms. (Strategy: Women’s Economic Empowerment)
for Oxfam Novib's Voice initiative
Oxfam America will provide funding to Oxfam Novib to support the Voice initiative, which promotes inclusive governance across 10 countries in Africa and Asia. Under the Voice initiative, Oxfam Novib will partner with the Transparency and Accountability Initiative, a donor collaborative, to support efforts by community-based organizations that seek to increase access of people who are marginalized and discriminated against, notably persons with disabilities, to the decision-making processes on how government revenues are allocated and spent.
