Overview
Oxfam America will provide funding to Oxfam South Africa (OZA) to address natural resource governance challenges in southern Africa. With this support, OZA will embark on community mobilization and education to facilitate effective implementation of policies designed to deepen corporate and government responsiveness and accountability in the extractives sector. OZA will also mobilize civil society groups and communities to advocate for the formalization of artisanal mining and to participate actively in setting the terms of engagement in extractive processes including environmental impact assessments, social labor planning, and corporate social responsibility.

Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. This grant to Oxfam America will support Oxfam’s implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Care (WE-Care) program in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, and support opportunities for influencing unpaid care and domestic work in regional and global spaces. The WE-Care program works to increase women’s and girls’ time and choice to participate in economic, political, and social life by transforming how unpaid care and domestic work is valued, shared, and invested in through supporting civil society and women’s rights organizations, educating men and boys and religious and cultural leaders, and conducting policy influencing. Oxfam West Africa is a global organization seeking to combat inequality by mobilizing extractive industry revenues toward social spending. This grant aims to ensure that women and other marginalized groups are able to participate, influence, and have equal voice in decision making about how extractive industry revenues are reported, managed, and used in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal. This grant will particularly focus on strengthening the advocacy efforts to push for 30% of development funds from extractive sector revenue to benefit the development and rights of women and girls.
