Overview
Oxfam America works closely with local civil society organizations to promote transparency of government revenues and spending and to increase public participation in decisions about how public resources are allocated and spent. In the last two years, Oxfam provided detailed information on the legal and fiduciary obligations of extractive companies to citizens in three regions of Senegal and facilitated citizen monitoring of company activities in those regions. This grant will enable Oxfam to consolidate the work in the three regions, expand to two more regions, and build the capacity of citizens in the target communities to participate in decisions about the allocation and use of extractive revenues.

Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. This grant to Oxfam America will support Oxfam’s implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Care (WE-Care) program in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, and support opportunities for influencing unpaid care and domestic work in regional and global spaces. The WE-Care program works to increase women’s and girls’ time and choice to participate in economic, political, and social life by transforming how unpaid care and domestic work is valued, shared, and invested in through supporting civil society and women’s rights organizations, educating men and boys and religious and cultural leaders, and conducting policy influencing. for support to Oxfam West Africa’s project enhancing women’s participation in extractives governance
Oxfam West Africa is a global organization seeking to combat inequality by mobilizing extractive industry revenues toward social spending. This grant aims to ensure that women and other marginalized groups are able to participate, influence, and have equal voice in decision making about how extractive industry revenues are reported, managed, and used in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal. This grant will particularly focus on strengthening the advocacy efforts to push for 30% of development funds from extractive sector revenue to benefit the development and rights of women and girls.
