Overview
The Osher Marin Jewish Community Center celebrates and sustains Jewish life and culture, builds cross-cultural understanding, and enriches the lives of people in Marin County. Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts, a program of the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, is a key component of this mission, by providing a space for cross-cultural exchange and enrichment through the performing arts. It features family-friendly performances and pricing, and attracts an audience of about 14,000 people each year. This grant to the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center supports the Performing Arts Program’s Continuity and Engagement strategy through the Innovative Works component.

The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center presents an eclectic mix of approximately thirty world, classical, vocal, dance, and literary performances at the 500-seat Hoytt Theater for 20,000 people annually. With a focus on family-friendly programming and prices, the Kanbar works across the education, lifelong learning, and health programs of the Community Center to introduce the arts as a regular part of people’s daily lives. Expanded programming over the past few years has reached out to families and more diverse audiences through Summer Nights, evening arts performances in the outdoor venue behind the Community Center. The Kanbar provides more than 7,000 free tickets to seniors and low-income residents every year.

With a focus on family-friendly programming and prices, the Kanbar works across the education, lifelong learning, and health programs of the Community Center to introduce the arts as a regular part of people’s daily lives. Expanded programming during the past few years has reached out to families and more diverse audiences through Summer Nights, evening arts performances in the outdoor venue behind the Community Center, and a current pilot of Winter Nights, a similar series in winter. The Kanbar provides more than 7,000 free tickets to seniors and low-income residents every year.
