Overview
Opera San Jose is the only company in the United States with a resident company of nine emerging principal artists who receive twelve-month contracts (including housing, medical benefits, and a modest salary) to perform leading roles in the season's four main stage productions of classical opera and new works, such as the West Coast premiere of Anna Karenina in September 2010, providing 25,000 South Bay audience members and 20,000 schoolchildren with high-quality opera experiences. An Organizational Effectiveness grant would help the organization create a new three-year strategic plan at a critical juncture in its history, when audiences and contributions are declining, esteemed General Director Irene Dalis prepares to retire in 2014, and the opera seeks to find a business model that will sustain their work and impact far into the future.
