Overview
Opera San José is the only opera company in the United States with a resident company of five principal artists who are given year-long salaried contracts, which include housing and medical benefits, to perform leading roles for the season’s four mainstage productions of classical opera and new works. Reaching annual audiences of more than 30,000 people, the company performs its core repertory, learns new work under the pressures of a demanding schedule, and develops its performance skills across a diverse repertory. Opera San José offers educational opportunities for adults, and an opera education program for public schools that includes assemblies, residencies, and attendance at dress rehearsals. Renewed support will help the Opera reach financial sustainability and develop programming that is culturally relevant to a demographically changing Silicon Valley.
