Open Collective Foundation

Open Collective Foundation is a technology-driven fiscal sponsor for more than 300 projects, including Art.coop. Art.coop educates and connects people and entities advancing economic justice initiatives such as cooperatives, land trusts, time banks, mutual aid networks, and open-source software. Its programs and grants strengthen the solidarity economy movement by supporting artist-led new economy initiatives, and democratic ownership and governance models in art and culture. This grant to Open Collective Foundation will support Art.coop to conduct a research project highlighting the Bay Area and help build a directory of artistic and cultural entities working in the solidarity economy. The project will further the Performing Arts Program’s strategic framework by describing who, where, and how art and culture is being practiced outside of the nonprofit sector.

This grant to Open Collective Foundation for Art.coop advances new forms of infrastructure, for a more inclusive and sustainable arts and culture sector and for the Performing Arts Program’s strategies.

The Open Collective Foundation’s mission is to promote projects in the U.S. with three charitable purposes: (a) increasing access to educational resources and training, (b) creating a positive social impact and, (c) developing tools to improve civic participation within cities or communities. A growing number of organizations, many of which sit outside the traditional labor movement, are building more equitable, worker-centered tools, including alternative economic, community, and organizing models to address the myriad challenges that many worker communities face. The Power for All Collective is a project to take up these questions of worker voice.
