Overview
A regional, grass-roots organization, NPH provides a voice for those who support, build, and finance affordable housing. As a core partner of the Great Communities Collaborative, NPH will work towards the goals of SB 375 by focusing on the need to create affordable housing around transit hubs. SB 375 directs counties to develop binding regional plans for meeting the greenhouse gas reduction targets from improving land-use. This is key since transportation produces 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the Bay Area, and increasing sprawl cancels out positives of alternative cars and fuels. NPH will aid stakeholders in creating a regional housing agenda for the Bay Area's Sustainable Communities Strategies (SCS). By 2035, the goal is for 65 percent of new development to be in downtowns near transit, with 20 to 40 percent of that development affordable to lower-income households. This grant would further Hewlett's efforts address the environmental and sustainable transportation needs of underserved communities in the Bay Area. (New, $50,000/1; 19 % of project budget)
