Overview
New Century Chamber Orchestra is one of only a handful of conductorless ensembles in the world, allowing musical decisions to be made collaboratively by the 19-member string orchestra. The ensemble performs locally in Palo Alto, Berkeley, San Rafael, and San Francisco, providing opportunities for more than 6,000 listeners throughout the Bay Area to experience both traditional classical works and pieces from other genres—including jazz and rock—brought into a chamber orchestra setting. Renewed funding will support the organization during the transition of longstanding music director Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg’s final season, and ongoing efforts to build local audiences during its 25th anniversary 2017”“18 season.
