Grants to this Grantee
for analysis and communications about federal and state college- and career-readiness policies
The New America Foundation will research, identify, and promote policies that advance deeper learning and improve student success in K-12 and higher education. Its work starts with the recognition that the Common Core standards are a critical step toward giving all students access to deeper learning. From this foundation, New America will conduct research, policy analysis, and strategic communication in three areas: (1) new measures of career readiness that ensure schools give students multiple paths to success; (2) new state and federal accountability policies that create strong incentives for implementing the Common Core at the state, local, and classroom levels; and (3) policies for strengthening the alignment between postsecondary academic standards and the Common Core. New America’s research and findings will be communicated through multiple outlets including live events, electronic and print media, and social media.
for support of the Media Policy Roundtables
Mark Lloyd of the New America Foundation will work with the Omidyar Network to support the design and implementation of a series of 4 media and policy-relevant conferences in January and March of 2012. Support will include identification of participants and support of travel arrangements, background research to support the round tables, and recommendations and synthesis of results.
for bridging open education and equity in preK-12 districts
New America is a nonpartisan think tank dedicated to renewing America by confronting the challenges caused by rapid technological and social change and seizing the opportunities those changes create. New America’s Education Policy program will undertake a three-year project to report on and promote the development of inclusive teaching and learning that combines OER and culturally responsive teaching methods; conduct policy analysis on this topic; and disseminate stories and recommendations on a national level. This grant serves key goals for the Education Program and the Open Education Strategy, including developing pedagogy, practice, and a more inclusive and responsive field. (Substrategy: Systems.)
