This general support renewal grant will support the Montana Wilderness Association’s organizational mission of protecting as much of the state’s remaining 7 million acres of roadless land as possible. To achieve its goal, during the grant period, the Association will seek enactment of new wilderness policies and ensure that Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management plans protect their roadless lands. The Association will work to broaden its support base, particularly among young people, sportsmen, businesses, tribal members, and women. It will also educate decision makers, the public and the media on the value of roadless lands to Montana.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Montana Wilderness Association works with hikers and horsemen, snowmobilers and timber workers, ranchers and native communities, locally elected officials and career conservationists — all joining together to establish common ground and advance conservation solutions. The organization educates the public, press, and policymakers about public lands, and works to protect wildlife corridors and clean water, build and maintain trails, and increase public support for parks and trails. The Association and its partners aim to protect another 2.4 million acres by 2024. (Western Conservation Substrategy: Advance Conservation Protections.)
