Margaret Jenkins Dance Company creates and performs new works that tour nationally and internationally. It also operates the Margaret Jenkins Dance Lab, a community space for developing dance and providing dance classes, and Choreographers in Mentorship Exchange (CHIME), a unique mentorship program for professional choreographers. Renewed funding will support the forty-year-old company in continuing to develop and present new works, as well as maintain its Dance Lab and CHIME programs.

In recognition of the Hewlett Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions initiative supports the creation and premiere of 50 exceptional works of performing arts. This grant will support the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company in developing and presenting "Global Moves" by choreographer Margaret Jenkins. In the face of waves of national/international isolationism and xenophobia, "Global Moves" will be a collaborative dance event of hope and unity that draws on the combined creativity of choreographers from the United States, India, Israel, and China.

Its programs employ 20 artists and engage approximately 1,500 audience members each year. This grant to Margaret Jenkins Dance Company advances the Performing Arts Program’s Continuity and Engagement strategy through the Innovative Works component.
