Overview
The Los Angeles Business Council Institute is a respected research, education, and advocacy organization dedicated to economic and environmental sustainability. With support from the Hewlett Foundation, it was instrumental in establishing the nation’s largest (150 megawatts [MW]) solar feed-in tariff program, which provides a predictable price for solar energy developers. In 2014, LABC Institute will build support for scaling the program to 600MW by 2020, aiming for approval of this increase by 2015.

The Los Angeles Business Council Institute is a respected research, education, and advocacy organization dedicated to economic and environmental sustainability. In 2012, the Institute and its allies were successful in pushing the utility to boost energy efficiency spending and adopting an innovative pricing system for rooftop solar installations. for the Clean Los Angeles Solar and Energy Efficiency Program
The Los Angeles Business Council Institute is a new (in existence for less than two years) c3 organization that is related to the LA Business Council--a c6 association that has been in operation for 70 years. The Institute represents business leaders from all industry sectors and advocates on a range of issues, including a major focus on increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy use at the city's electric utility. The Institute will engage businesses and other key allies in its Clean LA coalition to advocate for the utility to increase energy demand through increased energy efficiency by at least 1% per year by 2016 and 2% per year by 2020, and for pricing mechanisms that will allow 150 mega-watts of electricity to come from local renewable sources by 2016.
