Overview
Founded immediately after the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) is dedicated to saving lives and bringing sustainable programs to the Haitian people quickly and effectively. Not only does it manage two camps that together house over 50,000 displaced people, J/P HRO oversees five programs in areas related to camp management, medical services, rubble removal, education, and emergency response operations. It is a unique organization that emphasizes the belief that emergency relief in Haiti goes hand-in-hand with sustainable economic development and reconstruction. In an international relief effort that to date has been characterized largely by paralysis and dysfunction, J/P HRO has managed in just its first year to build one of the most efficient aid outfits working in Haiti today. This grant matches one awarded by the Flora Family Foundation in March.
