Overview
Based in San Francisco, Horizons Foundation is a LBGT community foundation (the world first and largest). The organization has been in the PA portfolio since 2006 as a regranting intermediary to small, community based LGBT organizations in the Bay Area. In addition, Horizons received support from Community Leadership Project phase 1 as a regranting intermediary. Horizons is recognizing the unique opportunity to capitalize its endowment given the economic recovery and charitable planned giving with seniors. "The Stonewall Generation," who seek to leave a legacy of their LGBT civil rights gains. Horizons seeks to build its capacity for capital fundraising through a planning project to lay the groundwork for individual fundraising. This includes developing the case statement and setting the campaign goal (likely $1.5-3.5 million), overhauling the website, creating and training a campaign planning task force of board and staff, and preparing collateral materials. The organization will utilize the services of two consultants: Laura McCrea & Associates (fundraising) and Creative B'stro (website design).

for support of a performing arts regranting program
Horizons is a community foundation devoted to increasing the visibility of and addressing issues of importance to LGBTQ people. The organization’s Community Issues grants program supports many types of nonprofits and fiscally sponsored programs given the many needs of the LGBTQ community across the nine Bay Area counties it serves. Each year, Horizons awards approximately 30 grants through the program, of which typically 20%-30% are for LGBTQ art and culture projects with annual budgets of $1 million or less. This grant to Horizons Foundation for its Community Issues grantmaking advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
