Overview
Healthy House within a MATCH Coalition (Merced, CA) aims to build understanding between cultures by improving the quality of life, health and well being of low-income communities. The organization provides culturally relevant health education, interpretation and mediation to diverse stakeholders throughout Merced County. A grant would allow Healthy House to partner with Los Angeles-based Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations (LDIR) to provide leadership training to 60-75 nonprofit leaders from organizations serving low-income people and communities in Merced, Stanislaus, Madera, Fresno, and Tulare Counties. The LDIR program seeks to support leader effectiveness by building the ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse people across lines of race, class, religion, sexual orientation, as well as sectors and disciplines. To that end, the Healthy House and LDIR will implemented the program over two cycles, bringing together 30-35 leaders per cycle. Over two weekends, participants will examine traditional leadership themes, such as fund development, budget and finance, and human resources, through a social justice lens. In addition, the program will address cross-cultural conflict, supervision from a social justice perspective, and privilege and power dynamics. Pre-workshop materials, take home assignments, and alumni gatherings will supplement the two training sessions. (New, $80,923, 40% of project budget)
