The Center on Education Policy at George Washington University is a national, independent source for unbiased research, analysis, and general information about public education policies and practices. The proposed project will build on the center’s previous work with federal policymakers by exploring evidence use in education policy and practice at the state and local levels. This work supports the Hewlett Foundation’s commitment to education innovation and equity by focusing on a dynamic issue that directly impacts students and public schools: the effective use of evidence to support school improvement under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The Center on Education Policy (CEP)--founded by Jack Jennings and now housed at the George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development--is a national, independent advocate for public education and for more effective public schools. The Center's mission is to help Americans better understand the role of public education in a democracy and the need to improve the academic quality of public schools. CEP supports its mission by conducting qualitative and quantitative research and analysis on the implementation of education programs and policies and how they impact public education. CEP proposes a one-year project to convene the most significant researchers currently studying implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), along with several funders and a select group of policymakers and other constituency organizations, and to produce a report through a process that ensures that the many researchers that are involved in studying the impact of the CCSS are aware of one another’s efforts and consider opportunities for partnership and collaboration when appropriate, and that fosters interaction between researchers and policy and advocacy groups that are supporting the CCSS to ensure there is alignment between research agendas and policy goals.
for support of measurement of progress toward the post-2015 development goals
This grant would enable George Washington University’s Institute for International Economic Policy to develop and demonstrate a way to measure progress toward the post-2015 development goals that reflects achievements across multiple sectors and levels (global, national, subnational, and household). Within this framework, this grant would also enable the researchers to develop a multidimensional measure of women’s economic empowerment. The goal of this grant is to establish a measurement method that programs and researchers can use to improve understanding of women’s economic empowerment and make program efforts more effective across multiple sectors.
