The Center on Education Policy at George Washington University is a national, independent source for unbiased research, analysis, and general information about public education policies and practices. The proposed project will build on the Centers previous work with federal policymakers by exploring evidence use in education policy and practice at the state and local levels. This work supports the Hewlett Foundations commitment to education innovation and equity by focusing on a dynamic issue that directly impacts students and public schools: the effective use of evidence to support school improvement under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The Monkey Cage blog, hosted at George Washington University and appearing on the website of the Washington Post, builds a bridge between political scientists and the American political conversation by creating a compelling forum, developing publicly focused scholars, and building an informed audience. This grant will enable Americas political conversation to be more informed by timely, accessible, and sound research from a publicly oriented political science disciplineand to be less dominated by evidence-free arguments.
