Overview
Gamelan Sekar Jaya is a traditional Balinese music and dance troupe with more than 60 diverse members. With a mission to foster artistic exchanges between Bali and the United States, core programs include an ambitious schedule of workshops, performances, in-school assemblies and ongoing residencies, as well as the creation of innovative new works of music and dance. Reaching more than 10,000 audience members annually, the organization is also known for its ongoing exchange with Balinese masters through its artist-in-residence program. Renewed support will ensure that the organization will continue to produce and perform Indonesian traditional arts in the Bay Area.

This organizational effectiveness grant to Gamelan Sekar Jaya will support the organization to plan and implement a capital campaign to purchase its existing space in South Berkeley. This grant advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy by supporting a center of Balinese arts, culture, and community in its goal for a stable home.
