Public Matters, a fiscally sponsored project of Pasadena Arts Council, works at the intersection of art, media, education, and civic engagement to transform communities and develop leaders between the ages of 18 and 26. It uses artistic practices and civic action to confront complex issues, such as food access and cultural invisibility, in specific communities in Los Angeles where the group is based. First-time funding will support Public Matters’ plans to develop and maintain multi-year funding; increase organizational efficiencies; and develop its Urban Futures Lab program, which prepares young leaders of color to develop creative and civic-minded careers through a two-year paid fellowship and mentorship program.
