Overview
Fresh Meat Productions is nationally recognized for its ability to produce and present art that explores and affirms the experiences, expressions, and visibility of transgender communities. Its programs include an annual arts festival; a resident dance company performing the artistic director’s original choreography; and production of performing arts events, in partnership with other organizations that reach people who cross or mix gender roles and identities. The organization reaches more than 18,000 people each year. During the grant period, the organization seeks to maintain its highly regarded local programming, increase its national touring and residency programs, and double its cash reserve.
About the Grantee
Grants to this Grantee
The San Francisco Transgender Film Festival (SFTFF) is the world’s first and longest-running transgender film festival. SFTFF provides opportunities for trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) artists and audiences, supports emerging and established trans filmmakers, fights transphobic representation and underrepresentation of trans people in film, and works for intersectional justice in media arts. This grant will support SFTFF at the critical milestone of their 25th anniversary season — investing in staff infrastructure expansion, the launch of a TGNC Filmmakers Seed Commission Initiative, their annual festival, and other co-sponsored trans arts events throughout the grant period.
Fresh Meat Productions produces and presents dance and performance art that explores and affirms the experiences, expressions, and visibility of transgender and gender nonconforming communities. Its programs include an annual arts festival, including related commissioning projects; a resident dance company that performs Artistic Director Sean Dorsey’s original works; the co-sponsorship and production of community-based arts events; and transgender education, engagement, and advocacy activities. Support for Fresh Meat Productions advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
