Grants to this Grantee
for Bay Area Performing Arts Spaces
A grant to Fractured Atlas would support the organization’s ongoing development and maintenance of the Bay Area Performing Arts Spaces, a dynamic online marketplace that links performance and rehearsal space with artists and others who need access to affordable space. The marketplace launched in 2011 and is a joint project of Fractured Atlas and local service organizations Theatre Bay Area and Dancers’ Group. During this grant period, Fractured Atlas intends to add new calendar syncing functionality to the site, conduct outreach to Bay Area organizations to increase adoption, and continue to provide training and customer service support.
for American Dance Abroad
American Dance Abroad, a project fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, is a comprehensive 5-day symposium for international dance presenters and local dance companies to take place in the San Francisco Bay Area in the fall of 2013. The symposium will follow a successfully implemented model from New York City in 2012 that includes live performances featuring local dance companies, open rehearsals, panel and roundtable discussions, and site visits to important regional dance venues and organizations.
for the Bay Area Cultural Asset Map
A grant to Fractured Atlas would support the organization’s ongoing development and maintenance of the Bay Area Cultural Asset Map, a web-based cultural mapping and data aggregation software tool launched in 2010. In partnership with local service organizations Theatre Bay Area and Dancers Group, Fractured Atlas has made some of the tool’s features available to the public, although the bulk of its functionality is currently restricted to Hewlett Foundation use. During this grant period, Fractured Atlas plans to refresh data sources, continue to provide technical support to local users and nonprofit partners, and prepare for a public launch of the Bay Area Cultural Asset Map in 2014 as part of the Initiative for Sustainable Arts in America, for which the Foundation awarded a grant to Harvard University in 2012.
