Overview
In 2021-22, the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College of New York and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies launched Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice (LDSJ). The goal of LDSJ is to meet the challenges of our times — from racial justice to poverty to climate change — by supporting a growing cadre of smart, diverse, connected leaders capable of thinking across boundaries, developing imaginative new approaches to old problems, and managing and executing large-scale initiatives. Following a successful launch, LDSJ is now looking ahead as to how to scale its programming and sustain this important initiative.

for the Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice initiative
Two schools at the City University of New York (CUNY) — the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College of New York and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies — seek to establish the Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice initiative, a national center to recruit, develop, and connect diverse leaders for social change who can imagine and implement visionary solutions for the enormous challenges facing today’s world. There is a compelling opportunity in the abundant talent of an emerging generation of BIPOC leaders and a vital need for a scaled initiative that prepares them early in their careers in social justice traditions, ideology, literature, and history in order to take power in all sectors.
