First Voice

First Voice creates and produces original, multidisciplinary work that fuses Asian performing arts traditions with American art forms such as jazz, spoken word, and storytelling. Each year, the organization, based in San Francisco, reaches 20,000 audience members through both local performances and touring nationally. First Voice also performs and teaches at public schools and universities and has produced numerous spoken word and jazz recordings. Support of First Voice advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

First Voice creates and produces original, multidisciplinary work fusing Asian performing arts traditions with indigenous American art forms such as jazz, spoken word, and storytelling. Reaching 15,000 audience members annually through its local and national tour performances, First Voice also performs and teaches at public schools, universities, and other institutions and has produced numerous spoken word and jazz recordings. Supplemental funding will provide additional artistic funds for the remainder of the general operating grant period.
