Overview
Expeditionary Learning (EL) is one of the ten organizations in the Deeper Learning Network; in 2012 EL was selected by New York State to develop Common Core curricula for grades 3-8 in English Language Arts and Literacy, which has expanded demand for their professional development offerings. This Organizational Effectiveness grant will enable EL to develop a business plan that will help it to expand the reach of its professional development offerings (focused on Deeper Learning through the Common Core), and to develop new, sustainable revenue streams. This supports the program's strategic objectives by having resources and models whereby other schools can pursue teaching and learning that enables students to develop Deeper Learning outcomes.

Grants to this Grantee
for Content Stance development communications and wellness
EL Education develops deeper learning school environments committed to meaningful, adventurous, and challenging work and fosters an expanded view of achievement that focuses on student character, high-quality work, and mastery of knowledge and skills. Through its national school network, as well as its district and school literacy partnerships, EL Education supports students and educators and facilitates the implementation of high-quality educational materials (including an open educational resource English Language Arts curriculum). EL Education continues to develop approaches to improve its instructional model, increase its capacity to expand impactful professional learning opportunities for educators, and scale its reach and impact on student achievement. This organizational effectiveness grant will support the organization with developing and codifying a set of robust, coherent and fully vetted content “stances” that will codify into one unifying document the organization’s most important positions on educational equity, teaching and learning that will then be used to ensure consistency in messaging when engaging various internal and external stakeholders. There is also an allocation in this grant for wellness in furtherance of the organization’s charitable purpose. (Sub-strategy: Content, Tools and Services)

EL Education is a national school support network that develops K-12 curricula based on open educational resources and aligned with deeper learning. This organizational effectiveness grant supports their internal work to deepen awareness, knowledge, skill, and capacity about educational equity.
