Overview
In 2003, the El Campanil Theatre Preservation Foundation bought a 700-seat Art Deco theater, which had fallen into disrepair after seventy-five years, and successfully restored and updated the landmark to its original glory. El Campanil is an essential cultural and economic cornerstone in Antioch, an area with scant artistic opportunities that was hit particularly hard in the economic recession. El Campanil annually presents over 100 events, reaching more than 30,000 people in the community; operates a children’s theater program that serves 8,000 youth; and offers theater rental at a discount to small, diverse arts organizations. As it looks toward its tenth anniversary season, El Campanil plans to continue its eclectic programming, develop its staff and board leadership, and strengthen its financial base
