Known for developing and presenting innovative and provocative new plays, Crowded Fire contributes to the creation of a contemporary canon that reflects the diversity of the Bay Area, and is instrumental in introducing the region to new writers. In addition to three mainstage productions each season, it offers a robust new play development program that includes commissions, in-house workshops, and an annual free public reading series. One of three resident theaters at Potrero Stage in San Francisco, Crowded Fire reaches more than 3,000 audience members annually, and serves nearly 100 artists. A first-time grant will support its annual season, the development of four new plays, a writing lab, a mentorship program for aspiring theater production artists, and increase the organization’s operational capacity.
