Overview
The Council on Foreign Relations works to provide CFR members, government officials, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens with the resources they need to better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries. As an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher, CFR is stongly suited to meet this need and to provide access to the trusted and reliable information that citizens and policymakers need in order to make informed decisions about the future of the United States. A renewal grant for general support will specifically allow the Council the flexibility that it needs to respond to breaking international news, events, and trends. Unrestiricted funding from the last grant from the Hewlett Foundation helped CFR to reorganize its work to respond nimbly to the foreign policy challenges posed by the financial crisis and to provide policymakers and the public with the analysis they needed to make the best decisions possible under the circumstances.
