It seeks member consensus on major educational issues and expresses their views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public. CCSSO convenes an annual National Conference on Student Assessment, which has become the nation's leading venue for K-12 assessment issues. As a part of its 2011 Conference, CCSSO will convene a plenary session on the future of education and a related plenary break-out session on performance assessments. Hewlett would fund the performance assessment break-out session as well as providing support to the overall conference.

for support of the Learning Registry
The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a membership association that serves the heads of state departments of elementary and secondary education. CCSSO would help provide support for Learning Registry - known as "the card catalog for digital resources" - focusing on working on the governance, maintenance, and future upgrades of Learning Registry with guidance and technical support from its members, and other entities such as its partners, the U.S. Department of Education, and other people and groups interested in Open Education Resources (OER). This work is expected to advance the OER program's strategic goal of supporting a robust technical and institutional infrastructure for the broader OER stakeholder community.
