Overview
National monuments are protective public land designations that can be created by the President without action by Congress. The Conservation Lands Foundation, whose mission is the protection of ecologically important public lands, has launched an effort to promote the designation of new national monuments in the West. This grant would support the Conservation Lands Foundation's strategy. The Conservation Lands Foundation will use public education, research, and outreach to build support for monuments. Its goal is to have three to five monuments created during the grant period.

The Conservation Lands Foundation protects, restores, and expands the nation’s system of National Conservation Lands through a network of 70 volunteer-powered, local “friends groups;” public education; and partnerships. The organization trains and supports its Friends Grassroots Network to work with their communities to steward and advance new conservation protections for landscapes and rivers across the West.
