The Community Music Center has a historic, ninety-one-year-old mission to make music accessible to everyone. At its home in San Francisco’s Mission District, as well as in a Richmond District branch, the Center offers a comprehensive slate of music lessons in thirty instruments, including voice; more than fifty ensemble classes; advanced training in theory and musicianship to more than 2,400 students of all ages; and public performances for 18,500 people. Nearly 70 percent of the students received financial aid. With its first new executive director in thirty-three years, and a new five-year strategic plan, the organization is poised to build on its strong foundation to continue to deliver quality community arts education.
