Overview
This renewal grant will support Colorado College’s annual State of the Rockies poll, an Intermountain-wide bipartisan poll of attitudes toward energy development and land conservation on public lands. This public poll has been conducted annually since 2011 and has become a very effective tool in communicating the attitudes of Westerners to policymakers.

This renewal grant will support State of the Rockies’ annual Conservation in the West Poll, an Intermountain-wide poll of attitudes toward national public lands and water issues. As part of Foundation efforts to broaden the base of support for land and water conservation and clean energy initiatives in the western United States, Hewlett funded a first-of-its-kind bipartisan public opinion poll in five Rocky Mountain states in 2011. The poll showed that residents shared a range of pro-environmental values across race, political party, geography, and other divisions. A project grant to Colorado College will allow the college to host the poll for a third year.

As part of its efforts to broaden support for land and water conservation and clean energy initiatives in the West, in 2011 the Foundation funded a first-of-its-kind bipartisan public opinion poll in five Rocky Mountain states. It showed that residents shared a range of pro-environmental values across racial, political, and geographical divisions, among others. The poll results are used by a broad array of federal and state decision makers, conservation organizations, and business and civic interests. A project grant to Colorado College would allow it to host this important annual poll again in 2014.
