Overview
Living Voters Guide (LVG) is an innovative online tool designed to foster voter education, deliberation and civil discourse on state ballot measures. Developed in 2010 by Seattle CityClub, in collaboration with scholars and practitioners from the University of Washington, LVG was used by more than 30,000 Washington voters in the 2012 general elections. The platform enables voters to create an on-line, customized pro/con list capturing the most important factors in their decision on upcoming ballot measures. Participants are also encouraged to read the considerations of others and can incorporate these into their own lists. Systems are now established enabling fact-checking by local librarians upon request. From the sum of these individual transactions, LVG creates an "living", evolving guide to public thought on ballot measures, identifying pros and cons that both issue "supporters" and "opposers" recognize as important. This grant would allow LVG to enhance site features, expand usage, and improve and formalize internal practices.
