Overview
San Francisco Chanticleer is a full-time, all-male professional vocal ensemble. The Grammy Award-winning ensemble will celebrate its 39th season in 2016-17, performing 52 concerts in 24 states, 27 in the San Francisco Bay Area, along with a 15-concert tour of Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Russia. Chanticleer is known around the world as "an orchestra of voices" for the seamless blend of its 12 male vocalists ranging from soprano to bass, and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz and popular genres, as well as contemporary composition. A grant to Chanticleer will support its commissioning program, live recordings, and upcoming 40th anniversary season.

San Francisco’s Chanticleer advances choral music through live performances, choral education, recording, and by commissioning and performing new choral works. Each year, the 12-man ensemble typically performs over 100 concerts throughout the Bay Area, nationally, and internationally, reaching more 45,000 pople. The organization’s youth choral festival draws school choruses from across the San Francisco Bay Area to focus on ensemble vocal training and performance opportunities. In service of adult choruses, the organization offers an intensive week-long summer choral workshop in Sonoma County. This grant to Chanticleer supports the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Chanticleer is an acclaimed 12-man professional vocal ensemble that performs diverse historic and contemporary choral music, provides choral music education, and creates new choral work. The group performs locally, and tours nationally and internationally, reaching more than 52,000 in a typical year. Chanticleer also provides training programs and master classes for high school and collegiate choruses, and adult singers. Its catalogue of recordings is frequently broadcast on radio nationally. Support for Chanticleer advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
