Founded in 1977 and based in New York, Chamber Music America (CMA) is the only national service organization devoted the ensemble music field. The organization has 8,000 members nationwide including 40 ensembles in the Bay Area working in the classical, contemporary and jazz music traditions. CMA’s administers commissioning and regranting programs, produces a monthly magazine and presents annual and regional conferences and workshops. With support from the Hewlett Foundation since 1987 CMA has most recently concentrated on diversifying its membership and educating its members on how to attract more diverse audiences and add more aesthetic breadth to their artistic programming. With renewed project support CMA will create a Bay Area advisory group to produce twelve technical assistance trainings for local members and offer stipends to encourage increased local participation in an annual national conference.
