Overview
The Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) is a Bangalore-based non-profit organization that focuses on interdisciplinary research on Internet and digital technologies. An organizational effectiveness grant will support CIS during its leadership transition and help create a strategic vision plan for the next five years. This grant is closely aligned with the Cyber Initiative's sub-strategy to build a core set of institutions focusing on pressing cyber policy issues.

A grant to the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) will support its efforts to carry out interdisciplinary research that balances societal imperatives for citizens, governments, and industry alike. Its four proposed research areas and outcomes, some of which build off existing work, include: (a) emerging technologies and cybersecurity; (b) frameworks for cybersecurity nationally and internationally; (c) cybersecurity and its impact on human rights; and (d) the private sector and cybersecurity. As CIS’s work and institutional capacity develop, its aim is to become a leading civil society voice in the cybersecurity dialogue at the national, regional, and international level in India.

A grant to the Centre for Internet and Society will continue to support its efforts to carry out interdisciplinary research that balances societal imperatives for citizens, governments, and industry. It includes five core research and policy areas: (a) building a knowledge base of the cybersecurity ecosystem in India; (b) exploring the processes, tools, and resources to assist investigations into cross-border cybersecurity incidents; (c) generating recommendations regarding implementation of India’s 2013 National Cybersecurity Framework; (d) distilling best practices for cybersecurity training by studying the ethical hacker community in India; and (e) developing a better understanding of the economics of cybersecurity.
