Overview
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (CFAT) seeks to expand the Community College Pathway Program—a remedial math program focused on statistics, data analysis, and quantitative reasoning—throughout California and the nation. Statway (focused on statistics) and Quantway (focused on quantitative reasoning) are intensive year-long pathways, culminating in college credit, that are designed to serve students planning to transfer to four-year institutions and continue further studies in humanities or social sciences. Working within its national network of colleges and universities, CFAT would train and support large numbers of faculty to implement Statway and Quantway, as well as revise the Pathways to improve scaling within institutions. By the end of the grant term: (1) 10,000 students will have successfully completed one of the Pathways; (2) fifteen California institutions will offer the Pathways; and (3) the current, impressive student success rate will be maintained, even amidst substantial expansion.
