California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is a private institution of higher education founded by Walt Disney in 1961 as a training ground for a student body of primarily visual artists. Today, CalArts, in Santa Clarita, California, offers comprehensive degree programs across the full range of the visual, performing, media, and literary arts through six schools. CalArts is the fiscal sponsor of the Proposition 28 Implementation Advisory Council, a volunteer group of artists, educators, advocates, and creative industry leaders, that is helping to guide the implementation of the largest arts education funding initiative in California history. Support of CalArts, for the Prop 28 Implementation Advisory Council, advances the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy through the Policy and Advocacy substrategy.
