Overview
The California Arts Council (CAC) is a state agency governed by an 11-member policy-setting council appointed by the Governor and the Legislature to advance the state through the expansion of the arts, and including equitable resource allocation across geographic and cultural segments; integration of the arts into the educational curriculum as part of life-long learning; building cultural bridges between California and other nations; and collaboration with the state's public and private sectors. In the past year, the CAC was part of a statewide team that participated in in-depth arts education training provided by the National Endowment for the Arts’ Education Leaders Institute. The team launched a Create the State arts education reform collaborative effort across the state as a result. Support for the initiative’s strategic planning process will provide the CAC and the Create the State initiative to build on existing assets in arts education efforts in California, while seeking new strategies to increase access and equity in arts learning.

for support of Creativity at the Core

As one of four lead agencies of CREATE CA, a statewide arts education initiative, the CAC is partnering with the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (a Hewlett grantee) to deliver professional development training and resources to teachers across the state. Support for this new initiative, Creativity at the Core, will deepen teaching and learning through the arts aligned with the new Common Core State Standards, and impact millions of K-12 students.
