Overview
Founded in 1983, the Black Women's Health Imperative has been at the forefront of women's health issues through comprehensive public education and policy initiatives that promote the overall wellness of Black women. Originally named the National Black Women's Health Project, the organization broadened its structure to include national and local affiliated organizations and a change in name in 2002. Since then, the organization has instituted aggressive national programs in health policy, education, research, knowledge, and leadership development and communications to save and extend the lives of Black women.
