Overview
Berkeley Repertory Theatre is one of the country’s most highly regarded regional theaters. Each year it reaches nearly 600,000 people through 10 to 14 mainstage productions, the year-round School of Theatre, and a center for the development of new plays. Its ongoing commitment to civic participation has also helped ensure the performing arts are a thriving contributor to the vibrant cultural scene in the city of Berkeley and the county of Alameda.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Berkeley Repertory Theatre produces ambitious new and classic plays and attracts 160,000 patrons annually. A local arts leader with a national reputation, it earned six Tony nominations in 2010. Renewed operating support would enable Berkeley Rep to stage challenging work at the highest professional level and deepen its commitment to cultivating an interest in the arts among schoolchildren in dozens of Bay Area schools, students in its youth theater programs, and increasing numbers of audience members under the age of thirty.
