Overview
AXIS Dance Company is an acclaimed ensemble of performers with and without disabilities in a form called "physically integrated dance." AXIS’ creative team produces in-house and commissions outside choreographers and composers, presenting a season of work locally and touring nationally. Through various outreach programs, AXIS brings physically integrated dance to schools, community centers, and independent living centers to participants seeking to learn more about dance, disability, and collaboration. A supplemental grant to AXIS will support a leadership transition, strengthen its artistic and operational resiliency, and produce its thirtieth anniversary season.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
AXIS Dance Company creates and performs contemporary dance developed through the collaboration of world-renowned choreographers and dancers with and without disabilities. As one of the few physically integrated dance companies in the country, AXIS is a pioneering organization for its artistic excellence and strong emphasis on educating both adults and children. The company reaches nearly 18,000 people each year through local and national performances and physically integrated dance instruction. With renewed support, AXIS plans to continue to develop new works each year, maintain its education programs’ reach, strengthen board and staff leadership, and form new partnerships with social justice organizations and others serving the disability community.
for organizational adaptation
AXIS Dance Company is a dance ensemble of disabled and non-disabled performers, and a pioneer in the field of integrated dance. The company presents concerts of its own work, as well as commissioned works by guest choreographers and composers, in a home season and in tours. Through its outreach programs, AXIS brings physically integrated dance to schools, community centers, and independent living centers for those seeking to learn more about dance, disability, and collaboration. The company serves more than 13,000 people each year with more than 35 performances, in addition to classes, trainings, and presentations. This grant will support AXIS in making organizational adaptations and advance the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
