This grant will support AEE to coordinate the announcement of U.S. scores on the 2012 PISA assessment by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Secretary- General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as well as support a series of AEE-organized events and research addressing what the PISA results mean for the United States. This "PISA Day" on December 3, 2013 and related preparatory and follow-up events will help concentrate the attention of policymakers and education reformers on the important role that high-quality assessments play to advance the Common Core State Standards and Deeper Learning outcomes—assessment of knowledge and skills for at least 15% of U.S. schoolchildren is a key strategic goal of Hewlett’s Deeper Learning initiative.

for the Federal and State Policy Cluster collaboration
The Alliance for Excellent Education encourages policies supporting high school reform and increased student achievement and attainment, particularly through an emphasis on deeper learning, digital learning, and the Common Core State Standards. On behalf of the "cluster" of Hewlett Foundation grantees working on policy reform, the Alliance will allocate organizational effectiveness funds to support increased coordination and collaboration among those organizations conducting research, advocacy, and outreach activities. Support for mutual planning and activities will help "cluster" participants share plans and metrics and act in greater unison for deeper learning reform at the state and federal levels.
