ActionAid is an international network building a just, equitable, and sustainable world in solidarity with communities on the front lines of poverty and injustice. This grant to ActionAid USA will continue to support the Valuing Women’s Work and Young Urban Women projects under one grant. ActionAid USA will promote movement building with young urban women in Ghana, India, and South Africa around economic security, bodily integrity, and unpaid care work. ActionAid USA will support convenings, networking, and the presence of advocates in key decision-making spaces, and it will advocate for economic policy alternatives with a feminist lens. Grants to this Grantee
for a project to ensure that economies and public service systems work for women and girls globally
ActionAid USA is the U.S. branch of ActionAid International, which is a global federation working for a world free from poverty and injustice. ActionAid’s work aims to build local to global momentum for social, economic, and environmental justice, driven by women and young people living in poverty and exclusion. This grant will support ActionAid’s work on women’s economic justice and rights through the Young Urban Women and Valuing Women’s Work programs in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and South Africa, as well as regionally and globally. These programs collaborate in challenging mainstream macroeconomic policies, narratives, and institutions that fail to recognize and value women’s paid and unpaid work and undermine their access to decent work and bodily autonomy and integrity. (Strategy: International Women’s Economic Empowerment)
for support of the Young Urban Women project
This grant will support the third phase of ActionAid’s Young Urban Women: Life Choices and Livelihoods in Urban Areas project, which seeks to ensure that young women living in urban areas in Ghana, South Africa, and India gain freedom and control over their bodies, time, income, and labor. ActionAid will work with young women leaders to develop a priority advocacy agenda based on key findings from the first two phases of the project, such as the gendered impact of macroeconomic policies and gender-responsive public services. ActionAid will also develop a platform to develop feminist and youth-centered proposals on sustainable and inclusive urban development policies.
